What’s happening at Girls School?
What is Girls School?
The historic and iconic 1930s Old Perth Girls School building in East Perth is a local legend, having operated as Perth’s first girls school for thirty years and a Police HQ for fifty years.
Many have walked the ‘Egyptian Art-Deco’ building halls throughout the years experiencing its grandeur. Some went to school there, others went for traffic branch business or to visit major crime and the dog squad.
FRINGE WORLD activated the venue in winter for Girls School Cinema and now this historic building will be home to A Midnight Visit, an epic performance theatre work. These activations are the first stages in FRINGE WORLD’s longer term activation plans for a thriving creative precent at Girls School.
What is A Midnight Visit?
Part choose-your-own-adventure, part film-set, part playground, A Midnight Visit will takeover Girls School for the 2019 Festival.
The historic and castle-like Girls School will be transformed into an incredible 34-room performance space for the not-to-be missed show, heading to Perth direct from a stellar and extended 12 week Sydney season.
Using the works and worlds of the macabre master Edgar Allan Poe as inspiration, the show takes audiences on an adventure like nothing seen in Perth, where no two visits are the same.
You'll encounter strange characters, thrilling scenes and incredible dreamscapes as you make your way through the fantastical space.
Channelling contemporary classics like Stranger Things and David Lynch, A Midnight Visit is a hedonistic night out - different, dark and decadent.
Don’t be fooled by the title of the show, it’s not performed at midnight and there are multiple nightly sessions starting from 7.30pm.
What happening nearby?
Across the Road from Girls School is the East Perth Cemeteries, which will play host to a remarkable new after-dark show, REST by WA Youth Theatre Company and the National Trust of WA.
This immersive theatre experience invites a small audience to rest momentarily under the stars, offering a deeply private journey. When do the living ever get the chance to pause in a place of eternal rest?
